What’s my Fitbit sleep score?

Your sleep score helps you understand your sleep each night so you can monitor trends in your sleep patterns. Studies show getting enough high-quality sleep can positively affect your energy, activity, mood, weight, and more (source).

Your overall nightly sleep score is based on your heart rate, the time you spend awake or restless, and your sleep stages.

Note that your device needs to track sleep stages to determine your sleep score. For more information, refer to What should I know about Fitbit sleep stages?

For more insights into your sleep score, purchase a Fitbit Premium subscription. For more information, refer to What should I know about Fitbit Premium?

How is my sleep score calculated in the Fitbit app?

Your overall sleep score is the sum of your individual scores for sleep duration, sleep quality, and restoration, for a total score of up to 100. The average score ranges from 72 to 83. Sleep score ranges are:

Sleep score Range
Excellent 90-100
Good 80-89
Fair 60-79
Poor Less than 60

Duration: Time asleep and awake How much you slept. The longer you sleep, the higher your score.
Quality: Deep and REM sleep How much time you spent in deep and REM sleep. The more time you spend in these sleep stages, the higher your score.
Restoration: Sleeping heart rate and restlessness How relaxed you were during sleep. A high sleeping heart rate or excessive tossing and turning can lower your score.
What's restoration in the Fitbit app?

Restoration provides insight into how restful your sleep was. This part of the score is based on your sleeping and resting heart rates and how much time you spent tossing and turning. You receive a higher restoration score when your sleeping heart rate is lower than your daytime resting heart rate.

To get a detailed breakdown of your restoration score in the Fitbit app, purchase a Fitbit Premium subscription. For more information, refer to What should I know about Fitbit Premium?

What's my sleeping heart rate in the Fitbit app?

Your sleeping heart rate, which is your heart rate while you’re asleep, is often lower than your resting heart rate. For more information about resting heart rate, refer to How do I track heart rate with my Fitbit device? Factors such as caffeine, alcohol, stress, illness, or other actions can impact your sleeping heart rate (source).

To check your sleeping heart rate in the Fitbit app, purchase a Fitbit Premium subscription. For more information, refer to What should I know about Fitbit Premium?

What's the difference between resting heart rate and sleeping heart rate?

Your resting heart rate is the number of times your heart beats per minute when you are still and well-rested. Your resting heart rate is estimated each day. Your sleeping heart rate is detected continuously throughout the night.
