As an admin, you control how people in your organization use Gemini with their Google Workspace account. When you turn on Workspace extensions in Gemini, the Gemini app (gemini.google.com) interacts with Google apps and services so your users get more helpful responses to their prompts. Users with a Gemini for Google Workspace license (Business, Enterprise, or Education) can let Gemini use their Google Workspace content in Gmail, Docs, and Drive to get more helpful responses.
Using Extensions
- To let your users upload files to Gemini from Drive, Workspace extensions must be turned on. Learn how to upload & analyze files in the Gemini web app.
- If you turn off extensions, any chats with Gemini that use an extension are still available to users. However, Gemini has access only to the information needed to respond to the original prompt. Gemini can't access additional information from Google Workspace until you turn on extensions again.
- Users who access Gemini as an additional Google service can’t use extensions.
During the beta test period:
- To turn on Workspace extensions, Docs, Drive, and Gmail must all be turned on. If one or more of these services are turned off, the Workspace extensions setting isn’t available in your Google Admin console. To turn these services on or off, visit Turn Drive and Docs on or off for users and Control Gmail access for your organization’s users.
- Context-Aware Access for Gmail, Drive, and Docs isn’t supported with Workspace extensions. When you turn on Workspace extensions, users can access Gmail, Drive, and Docs regardless of any Context-Aware access levels or policies you’ve defined. Learn more about Context-Aware Access.
